March 8th of every year marks the occasion of International Women’s Day, a day which was put in place to celebrate women and to highlight issues they face on an ongoing basis. Each year has a different theme and this year’s theme is #pressforprogress. Progress is something that many women all over the world have fought hard for over the years and with 2018 being the 100th year anniversary of the first instance of women being granted voting rights, the press for progress theme is quite apt. What some people forget is that there are still millions and millions of women in the third world and developing countries who still have little to no rights or standing in their communities and are considered second-class citizens to their male counterparts. It’s important that we continue to fight for those isolated women who face injustice every single day. Access to education is just one way these women can fight their way out of obscurity and it empowers them to understand that there is a world out there that wants to listen to their voice and appreciates their worth. The guys at Carvaka have put together this StoryMap below which is interactive and brings you on a journey around the globe to see a number of remarkable women. It features inspirational quotes from these remarkable women and it’s so encouraging to see the likes of India’s Deepika Padukone and Ellen Johnson Sirleaf from Liberia as they blaze their trail in this world.
