Flies are annoying. No matter what you do they seem to be capable of getting into your house and orchestrating fly-bys. They are always close enough to your head to be noticeable, but not so that you can swat them fast enough.

Of course, flies aren’t just annoying. They are known to carry an array of diseases, some of which are deadly.

That’s why it’s important you take steps to eliminate flies from inside your home. Fortunately, it’s easier than you may think:

The Electronic Option

You’ve probably seen the bug zappers in restaurants and other establishments. These emit a blue light which attracts flies and other insects. Once they touch the light they get electrocuted and die instantly.  You can purchase an electronic pest control unit for your own home.

They work on the same principle and are very effective. All you have to do is make sure they are plugged in and clean out the dead flies occasionally.

It’s a great way to get rid of flies. However, if you have a large house you may want more than one of these units.

Traditional Fly Trap

If you prefer to go old-school and use natural products then a shallow bowl can be successful. You’ll want to mix two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with a tablespoon of sugar and half a tablespoon of liquid dish soap.

Give the mixture a mix and then put it in the shallow bowl.

Eliminating Flies

Leave the dish uncovered and place it near a window, where the flies will notice it as soon as they enter.

The aroma will attract them to it, the dish soap in the mixture will cover them and prevent them from flying, effectively killing them.

Fly Paper

Flypaper is usually purchased in a roll. You hold the canister and pull the string, allowing a roll of flypaper to come out. This is left hanging somewhere. It’s very sticky. The flies are attracted to the aroma but, once they land, they can’t take off again. They will quickly die on the flypaper as they expend their energy trying to escape.

Fly Screens

Of course, the best idea is to prevent the flies and other bugs from getting into your home in the first place.  The simplest way to do this is to use fly screens on your windows and doors. These are pieces of mesh on a frame that fits over your window. You should still be able to open your window. The idea is the breeze can still enter your home but that the mosquitoes and flies can’t fit through the mesh. Preventing them from coming in stops you from needing to eliminate them inside.

Professional Help

Once flies do get in they can lay eggs in the strangest of places. You’ll find it’s hard to locate them and eliminate all the flies. This is when you should get professional help. They’ll kill the existing flies and find any eggs, ensuring that all the flies in your home are successfully eliminated.
