Reasons and Purpose of Celebrating the Holi

The reasons behind the celebration of this festival are many but the most popular is the story of Prahlad and Hiranyakashyap. It’s the story of the victory of goodness over evil. As per the Hindu Mythology, Hiranyakashyap, the father of Prahlad and the king of a demon, wish to kill his son Prahlad as he was the devotee of Lord Vishnu. Holika, the sister of Hiranyakashyap, was blessed with no harm of fire. Therefore, she took the child Prahlad on her lap and sat down in the fire. But due to the blessings of Lord Vishnu, Bhakt Prahlad got not harm and Holika burnt in the fire.  Therefore, “Holika-Dahan” is celebrated every year before the celebration of Holi.
